Explore the royal city of Meknes (Fez in miniature) medina but don’t forget to visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis. The historical remains are magnificent. You’ll feel like you’re still in Roman times, but without any tourist influences. You can book a guide on the spot, but we usually just wander around by ourselves. Near Volubilis you will find the holy town of Moulay Idriss. This town was forbidden territory for many years for non-believers. But now you are allowed to go there. It is definitely worth it.
The driver will gladly take you there.
Another option is to take the train from Fez (return ticket) and travel to Meknes. It takes about forty-five minutes to get there. There are many drivers eager to take you to Volubilis and Moulay Idriss. Agree in advance on the fare. We once did that with a driver who drove a seventies’ Mercedes. It was quite an experience!
